In a move to reach more people on their mobiles, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has launched their own app for the Android OS.
This new app will provide users fast access to BBC?s top news stories, with full pictures, videos and other utilities such as the ability to share a particular news item on social networks.
?I'm delighted to announce that from today the BBC News app will be available to download from Android Market in the UK says Andrew Sullivan, executive product manager for news, BBC Future Media.
?BBC Worldwide will soon be launching an international version of the app for audiences around the world,? he added.
This app will deliver the same contents as the BBC's iPhone and iPad app, which debuted last July. The iOS app was downloaded nearly 3 million times in the UK alone, and there were more than another 3 million international downloads.

BBC hopes to repeat the same success with this new, free-to-use Android app. Although the BBC app does not currently run on Android tablets, Sullivan said that the BBC is working with manufacturers to make the BBC available on all mobile devices as soon as possible.
