Although very little is confirmed, it is known that the Wii 2 release date is in 2012, as you can see Nintendo confirm in the memo screenshot below. Additionally, it has been all but confirmed that the system will feature multiple types of controllers and that at least one type of these controllers will have a screen. That controller screen is most likely a touchscreen with a resolution of 800?500.

It is reported that the new Nintendo system will be able to stream games and video to multiple controllers at once without having to turn on the TV. Each controller is like a mini-terminal. The console would do all the calculations to reduce latency, the cost of the controllers and bandwidth requirements while the controller does the rest of the work!
It is likely that this new system will not feature build-in 3D or have it as a large feature of the new system. To quote President Satoru Iwata, ?We would like to propose a new approach to home video game consoles. It?s difficult to make 3-D images a key feature, because 3-D televisions haven?t obtained wide acceptance yet.?
