Word on the street is that Microsoft will be releasing the first update to Windows Phone 7, dubbed 'Windows Phone 8' by one developer, in January


Microsoft has hit the big time with Windows Phone 7 ? consumers and networks seem to have taken to the new platform hook, line and sinker.
But ever since it officially landed we?ve been wondering when the first update to the platform will land. Well, it seems the waiting and speculation is over ? 'Windows Phone 8' (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. is reported to be coming on January 2011.
At least that?s what Windows Phone 7 developer Chris Walsh seems to think anyway. Here?s what the good man said on Twitter:
?I?m hearing the first Windows Phone 7 (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. update is going to be MASSIVE.?
Walsh added: ?Microsoft took three months to do what Apple did in three years [...] Let?s just say, they could have called it Windows Phone 8.?
So what will the first Windows Phone 7 update bring with it? Well, copy and paste, voice guided Bing Maps navigation, custom ringtones and, most importantly, third-party multitasking.
