England's most decorated football club Liverpool FC has changed hands from their unpopular American owners to another US consortium that owns the Boston Red Sox.
A late-night deal was done that saw the famous Merseyside club sold to New England Sports Ventures, the owner of Boston's Major League Baseball club.
"I am delighted that we have been able to successfully conclude the sale process which has been thorough and extensive," Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton said in a statement on the club's website

"The board decided to accept NESV's proposal on the basis that it best met the criteria we set out originally for a suitable new owner. NESV's philosophy is all about winning and they have fully demonstrated that at Red Sox."
But Sky Sports are reporting the deal may not be so easily finalised as outgoing owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr opposed to the sale.
The American duo would not receive any of the proceeds from the sale of the Premier League club in a deal that would eradicate Liverpool's $530m debt.
Liverpool has been embroiled in financial difficulty since Hicks and Gillett bought the club in 2007. The duo had until October 15 to repay the clubs huge debts owed to the Royal Bank of Scotland.
The American pair proved hugely unpopular owners with diehard Liverpool fans after promising a new stadium and funds to help previous manager Rafa Benitez to strengthen the squad.
The stadium plans were put on the back burner and Benitez was forced from the club as he struggled to purchase a team that could deliver results that matched Liverpool's proud history.
New manager Roy Hodgson's current reign has been no more successful with the side battling to 18th position in the new season.

Hicks and Mr Gillett had tried to remove managing director Christian Purslow and commercial director Ian Ayre from the board of directors and replace them with Mack Hicks and Lori Kay McCutcheon but a Liverpool FC statement earlier today claimed that it was subject to legal revue.
Broughton said he was disappointed the owners had "tried everything to prevent the deal from happening".

the saga seems to be going to continue for some time by the look of it with both sides claiming illegal moves by the other - see you in court?
