The company's PSP Go hardware iteration may not have won many fans over, but Sony's Ericsson division is reportedly creating a phone that will utilise many of the platform's strengths to create a new mobile gaming device that the upcoming iteration of the Android engine.
A report from a "trusted source" stating that Sony Ericsson will be creating a mobile device that incorporates the next generation of Android software and hardware aspects from Sony's PlayStation Portable. The device, which will carry PlayStation branding, will include the current PSP's directional pad and buttons in the same "slide-out" method of the PSP Go, but will replace the analogue thumbstick with a "long touch pad." The screen will be roughly the same size as the PSP Go's 3.8 inch display
The rumoured device will have its own section of the Android Market dedicated to selling games will "be graphically in the range of PSX or PSP games." A handful of IPs made famous on PlayStation platforms are being demoed with the device, including God of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and LittleBigPlanet.
