The update will introduce Apple's new Game Center gaming service and HDR photography capabilities. Users will also be able to take advantage of HD video uploads via Wi-Fi, while a number of bug fixes address sensor problems and performance issues with the iPhone 3G.

The official iOS 4.1 public release is expected to be ready by the end of next week. The company is already working on v4.2, which will bring the iPad up to speed with the iPhone and iPod touch.
