David Wang, aka planetbeing, has said he's doing a 48 hour test period from now, and then will release the unlock.

The iPhone 4 unlock is already working and remains in testing. Planetbeing and MuscleNerd have been testing it a while, and it's nearly perfect - but needs a couple days for some finishing touches. With the jailbreak being released just now, I figured an unlock status update would quench a thousand threads from starting.

Cody has been in Scotland for a couple weeks, and is also testing the iPhone 4 unlock with O2 and various carriers in Europe. So far it's been smooth and working just like how it should - without you noticing. Toss in some APN settings and you're off with an unlocked iPhone 4.

The iPhone 4 compatible version of ultrasn0w will be downloadable through Cydia, same as normal. It will unlock a multitude of device/OS combinations. The idea is for it will be live this week, and of course we'll let you know as soon as it's officially released.

Meanwhile - we're hosting planetbeing's new iPhone app, Signal. It's available through the Cydia Store now, and works on 3G, 3G[S], and the iPhone 4. Signal maps the cell towers you are connected to and displays detailed cellular information from the baseband. Pretty nifty app which runs $4.99. The Dev Team and planetbeing don't accept donations - but these guys have put a LOT of work into the iPhone and the most recent unlock and jailbreak! Grab that app in Cydia asap to give back to planetbeing - and get a sweet app as well.
