Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are pleased to announce that they have appointed John Kear as Head Coach until the end of the season.

Kear is one of the most successful coaches in the British game with Wigan Warriors, Sheffield Eagles, and Hull FC among his former clubs.

Speaking today Kear said ???We’ve six games left of the current season, and have drawn a line in the sand so that as a squad of players we have a fresh start. It is obviously a massive challenge but one that I am relishing???

He famously led Sheffield to Challenge Cup success against Wigan in 1998, and more recently recorded a dramatic 25-24 victory over Leeds Rhinos in the Challenge Cup Final in 2005. Kear has also coached International rugby league as Head Coach of England.

Wildcats Chief Executive Steve Ferres said “John was an obvious candidate for the position, he has an enormous wealth of experience and proven success at the highest level.???

“There is no denying that every match is now crucial for us as a club, but we remain confident we have the ability to put together a “cup tie??? end of season run in.“

Kear, 51, will take over as Head Coach immediately and will have two weeks work with the players ahead of their crunch encounter with Castleford Tigers on August 6th.
