With the release of the iOS 4.0 firmware only half an hour ago, it is already possible to jailbreak with the Redsn0w beta 0.95 beta 5 ? 2 simply because Apple didn?t change the build in this firmware so it is the same as the Gold Master version. So, here is how to jailbreak the public release of iOS 4.0 on your iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 2nd generation.
This will only work on the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2nd generation (only MB models). The jailbreak for other devices will come later when an official jailbreak is released. We apologize to those who have to wait a little longer but it?s up to the Dev Team to create the new jailbreak.
What you need:
* An iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 2nd generation on iOS 4.0 public release.
*iOS 4.0 GM for the device that you have (http://blog.alltechrelated.com/2010/06/09/download-the-ios-4-0-gm-for-iphone-3g3gs-and-ipod-touch-2g3g/).
* Redsn0w 0.95 BETA 5 -2 (http://blog.alltechrelated.com/2010/06/20/redsn0w-0-95-beta-5-2-gives-ios-4-0-users-verbose-mode-battery-percentage/) (downloads at bottom of article)
What to do:
1. Open up Redsn0w and click on the Browse button.
2. Navigate to the iOS 4.0 GOLD MASTER version of the firmware for your iDevice (not public release).
3. Go through the normal steps following the on screen instructions on the Redsn0w program.
4. Let the program run until it says it has completed successfully.
You have know jailbroken your iPhone/iPod Touch on iOS 4.0 public release firmware!
Cydia is a white icon after this but once you open it, it should go back to normal. Make sure you let Cydia do all the updates in the program.
