LCD TVs are good but expensive to repair. The new DLP TVs kick out just as much light as LCD no chickenwire effects that plague the LCD. Rainbow flicker has been all but eliminated on the new DLP sets with a high speed light wheel. That being said it is still 30cm wider that the flat screens.
Before you ask I am not a TV saleperson.
But tend to have far too much free time at work.

Yes, as long as you get a REAL HDTV. There are lots of crap HDTV's on the market, that claim to output HDTV resolution, but don't!

Make sure the resolution is 1280x720 or higher and if possible, look for reviews or even better, see it in person first!

When I step the resolution down to 720 or 480, you really notice the difference, especially on games like Ghost Recon and PGR which have great distance detail.

It really does make a difference and I'd strongly recommend upgrading. Also consider what else you'll use the screen for. I'd recommend getting down to a large Dix0ns, J0hn Lewis to see these screens in the flesh - don't rely purely on technical specifications.

Good luck !!

Bit the bullet and ordered a 42 HD plasma, then while it was on its way got a 360, played the 360 on my crt 32" widescreen for a few days til the plasma came and graphics were mint, however when the new tv came and hooked it up with a vga cable it is absolutely unbelieveble difference, detail is amazing, imo stick with the xbox 1 unless you have a hd tv.

Also as someone said DO NOT rely on specs you see online to order a tv, i was under the impression an lcd would be the better choice, so i went down comet and dixons to check em all out and the plasmas imo where kicking crap out of most of the lcd's in all round perfomance, hd wise they are on a par but connected to a normal tv input like NTL or something some of the lcds were a disgrace to watch, picture was blocky and fuzzy. When you have found a set you want i recommend empiredirect.co.uk, unbeatable prices.

Tonite im hooking the 360 upto my surround sound system via optical cable for the ultimate gaming experience yeeha

Its a big jump in detail quality 420p low res to 1080i alot more quality, just make sure you go for a LCD over the Plasma if you are using it for gaming and chose the HD component lead you be well imprest crisp detail what the 360 was made for High def gaming.

nah, go try someout, some are good some are bollocks especially on some fast moving games i saw, it was like some lcd's couldnt keep up with the frame rate! Also if you are buying a 42" like i was then you probably need to be using it for everyday tv and stuff and the plasmas were sooo much better for that.

high def is far better than standard def, but i feel the xbox 360 outputs a better quality signal even on a standard def TV.

how is that perfect you need a component video connection or a vga.
you would have to use some dodge adapter.

It's definately worth going HD.
At the mo I run 2 360's next to each other, one on a 34" crt, the other on a 40" LCD.
On games like Chrome Hounds, it's very very difficult to read small text on the crt. But practicallity aside..............it's so damn pretty on HD.

You can get a sweet output on your computer monitor (assuming good monitor)

You can get a 25 pin D-Sub VGA cable (both MS branded and "Game" etc) for £15

Well you will find, if you use a 360 via rgb scart
it is a very good picture, compared to any other console without using hd
but obviously i would recommend the high def :D
but i would hold off buying hd tv atm, until the new ones come out
by Mitsubishi and some other companies called SED TV as thay are going to be more like CRT picture quality, but with hd res

I've played 360 on a television and in HD and there is no comparison. I don't have an HDTV - I bought an ACER 19" 1440x900 widescreen LCD monitor (~£169), an HD VGA cable (~£12) and use it with a set of 2.1 speakers. ebuyer have a similar spec monitor for only £117 which I assume will work just the same. High def gaming on the cheap :-).

from what i understand plasma's are brighter as they have a greater contrast ratio but i believe that they bur out quicker. but I'm not sure about quality each screen or manufacturer is pretty individual. but palma's start at higher sizes than LCD's.

I have a Xbox360 connected to a Samsung 32" Lcd Tv and tbh i would even play it any other way. I did have it connected to my 20" dell monitor and its ran @ 1080i through hd/vgd cable and was awsome but just for comfort and sheer sixe diff i got the new TV. Kids love it and its great for split screen being so large.

U bought the Xbox360 its a 3rd Gen console Treat it to a Better TV
