We had wall cavity installed, but the installers didn't do it on the main wall that runs down the whole of one side of the house. Due to old chimneys.

To me that seems a waste of time as the wall basically runs past ALL the rooms in the house and the wall not filled will just disipate heat.

Am i wrong i thinking that ALL the walls of the house should have been done to get any benefit?

you will still get some benefit out of the walls that are filled but i would of thought the installers would get round the old chimneys by inserting a cavity barrier either side, tho that could work out to be a bit costly.

Well, Npower seem to think it was pretty strange they didn't do it so are sending someone out.

Thanks for the reply

I take it you are talking about cavity wall insulation.
The installers probably didn't do it because there is no cavity to fill where the old chimneys were....its very difficult to create a cavity after removing a stack although building control would probably insist on some kind of extra insulation if they were involved in the renovation.

It would cost lots of money to create one but if you wanted to increase insulation to these walls the easiest way to achieve this would be to install thermal boards to the walls and re-plaster the lot....still costly.
These are just plaster-boards with polystyrene stuck to them.
The disadvantage of these is loosing 30-50mm off the room dimension and if the wall gets hit hard it will dent much easier than a rendered wall.

I Found out that they said that they couldn't do it cos with the chimneys we might not get full coverage!
