Have been looking at this for ages and think its best to go with your budget, specs are on the up and prices coming down lcd will be longer term choice but plazma ok 2. The manufactures obviously sell there own products, e.g. Sony say lcd is the way ahead where Panasonic reckon you need plasma over 32".
Remember HD will not be generally available without extra equipment or cost for a while yet.
Check out the manufacurers sites makes interesting reading.
Also sed developments are ongoing and are said to be better than lcd or plasma.
Check link for more details.

Hi, I have just purchased an Orion 42" plasma with integrated freeview- online from tesco at £799 incl delivery.
Its got an LG plasma panel.

Looking at high street shops I think it is better to go for this model and get a few years of use b4 getting a HD ready model which will have come down in price by then.

projectors are def old hat and take up too much room

I have a canon projector tv and its fantastic. it transmits up to 12' x 8'. and around 8' x 6' clear as a bell on a wall at a distance of 12'. the only prob as stated earlier is the bulbs are around £180. but saying that it only cost £550 new so if you compare the price to large plasma its better. and try get a 8' plasma. so if you want big go for projector. ive had the xbox on it and the cars are like normal size. and thru a surround system its like real life. hope this helps. oh by the way mine is just a digital projector that i connect thru my various appliances.

Non of them…there is about to be a new top dog! (given that HDTV is not really available to the masses it’s worth the wait) SED is the way forward...apparently

Personally, I reckon DLP gives you superior quality for the price. Comet are doing a Sony 50 inch DLP for £999

recently got a 40 inch Samsung, HD ready with integrated freeview(which will never be used)...sometimes appears dark in the daytime, but no different from when you open the curtains and the screen is not completely viewable on your tv, adjustments to the power saving fix this...very happy with it so far, had it about 2 months and woulnt change for anything else i've seen if i had the option...it's the newest model and it cost £1099 +vat delivered....just under £1300...opted for the 40 over the 46 as for 6 extra inches you'd pay what could buy you a decent 23 inch model for the bedroom....plus, room size should determine the size screen you buy and if you sit too close to the screen it's not good getting one too big.

as for waiting for new technologies, if you need a telly today you buy what's available now, if you constantly wait for promised models on the horizon you miss out on the here and now....casing example, friends of mine waiting for the PS3, they're all missing out on the action from the Xbox 360 and LIVE.....if the PS3 is all that when it arrives just get one too.

spending £1000 on a 42 inch plasma? might as shop around and spend the extra £200 on a HD Ready one.....my 2pence.

This looks awsome!!

will probably mean that lcd's will drop in price. but for my money these new SED's look like they are the business!

Needs to be LCD M8. Sony are one of the brand leaders and the have stopped making plasma's below 42''

LCD's are more reliable and don't suffer burnout.

A few months ago a mate of mine spent ?1700 on a 37" Panasonic HD Viera.

He then spent ?200 and ?10 a month extra on a HD sky-plus

He now has a picture which looks about as good as my 32" CRT and only ?1500 more.

Sorry to be a luddite but surely the question should be "lcd , plasma, projector or crt?"

have to say thought lcd was the future until I viewed the football in the shop and the blurring was not clever.
Down to two sets the sharp aquos lcd as it has a 6ms refresh rate To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. which can be found at Dixons for ?829
Or the plasma Panasonic TH37PX60B which again can be found for ?944, was nearly ?2000 a year ago.
this link busts some of the plasma myths
Panasonic UK - Plasma vs LCD, LCD vs Plasma , make the right choice (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Would appreciate any comments from owners of these sets as I am very near to purchase....Christmas or the January sales next decision.
p.s. anyone got comments about Dixons as a retailer... they are certainly offering the best prices at the present.
