Tried like everything, with my Nokia Dbox.

Can't get any TV channel to work for more than a second, and that only happened ocne or twice.

All the radio channels work fine no probs.

I've gone through all Ucodes and cams in:-

NJL:World -- This one worked the best.
Commando 4
Boxcrakker 2.4
Sportster
pacinno?

Tried the box on all the outlets in the house, with and without the splitter. -- No change.

Oh! Removed the modem, No change.

And i've trawled through all the forums, trying everything. there is nothing left.

Might get rid of it soon.

ok, as soon as i can find my null modem cable..

What will the boot log tell me?

scruff1963

it may well tell if it's a hardware problem.
I use hyperterminal to monitor what is going on with my box.
it gives a running commentary on what is going on with the box.
just set
dbox
settings
misc
Expert console from Null to serial
save settings and reboot
it will then send all the information to the serial port
start hyperterminal and tell it the modem is on the serial port with the nullmodem, normally 9k6 8,n,1
transfer
capture text
start
then restart the box
after the box has refused to work,
transfer
capture text
stop
then post the file

This all sounds very complicated to me at the moment as a new user to the Replay box. However I am trying to foresee any future problems I might have and at the moment although generally my box works well it does seem to either take a long time to boot or does not find any channels when I switch on until I press the menu button, thereafter it's fine? I have no idea if this is normal or not?
I think this post may be a very useful reference for future diagnosis,
Thanks. v:)

If you've tried that many images and you can scan but your channels are all messed up then you either have a funny box, or your signal is buggered. There are still certain channels of mine that have a BER of 26214 (like Jetix+1) which means the signal strength is low and would benefit from a booster. On the Commando v2.0 image you can find out this info by hitting RED then BLUE. Let us know what these numbers are and we should be able to help you, or at least tell you if its the box, the image or the signal that is causing the grief.

Don't give up. I have had some strange, annoying and simple to fix problems over the years I've had my dbox.

Take it easy and post some more info so we can help

my signal for varies a little but its mostly :-

BER: 60-0
SNR: ~61500
SIG: 32000

Would it be worth while getting a booster, would the £4.99 one from argos work?

Shop for 1 Way Aerial Booster. at Argos.co.uk (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5344228.htm)

You wouldn't get signals like that unless your on a valid channel ???
if there was no valid channels it should say
Ber 26214

You on a windup ?

or do you mean it says a channel name but there is no picture ?

redsquare

no,

it gets the channel names, guides, times. and maybe a less than a second of sound and rarely one frame of a picture.

post the bootlog, it should show any errors, sounds like hardware.
have you tried an enigma image ?

get a null modem then post the bootlog
does it show free channels bbc1, itv etc ?
when you reboot the box, on the LCD bottom right hand corner does it say
32/00/08
16/00/08
16/16/08
nokia or sagem ?

This is weird quoting my own post
Just been pm'd this question
--------------------------------
see when u are doin the above m8,do u need the dox to be connected to a pc or will the box just save the info?
could u give me more info as i have almost given up with my box,and would love to know if its a hardware problem.will doin the above tell me if its a hardware problem or software?
--------------------------------

You need to connect a nullmodem (serial) from your computer to the dbox
hyperterminal is a windows program available under
programs, accessories, communications.
If you don't have a serial port on your computer then you also need a usb-serial adapter

I don't have a problem with pm's but better in open forum, the odds are that there are others that are not clear also, this gives them to find the answer to.

pm's are for personnal comments or offering someone you feel to be genuine the offer of emailing them an image to play with until they get the required 20 "sensible posts" which will allow them access to all the images and other goodies available to people.

I think this may be your problem

avia_gt_ucode: framer error
2006avia_gt_ucode: framer error

at the very end of the bootlog.

did you try enigma as it is very forgiving of dodgy hardware, other than than play with the avia settings, most nokia's are 500 most sagems are 600.

I wouldn't write the box off just yet, you really need to test it with enigma.

here is a link to a 2x enigma image ready to go.

Hi,

tried your image, was a little better in that i got a few seconds audio.

I've included the bootlog, turns out didn't need the serial cable just telneted into the box and typed "dmesg > /tmp/bootlog.txt" and ftped that file over.

scruff1963
15-07-2006, 02:40 PM
Have you tried the avia's, swapping them around etc.
I am at a lose now, your bootlog is clear so a picture should show, it says

avia_av_wdt_thread: video decoding stopped ==> restart
avia_av: new_audio_config timeout
But the video decoding has restarted though the audio seems to have stopped.
have you tried streaming from yweb ?, if it shows a picture and audio then we know its the avia that needs looking at, as if I remember rightly streaming bypasses the avia.
nice one on the dmesg > /tmp/bootlog.txt are you familiar with linux ?.

redsquare

When did you type this in when its booting or after m8.
Cheers.

Once the box has booted.

You can view it in the telnet window by just typing "dmesg"

Basically dmesg prints out all the kernels messsages

Can't get anything to show up, not even radio on the web interface, using that image you posted.

VLC connects but says "Nothing to play"

I'll try a differnt image.

WOW
I can actually see a channel for more than a few milli seconds!!, using the webviewer.
This is via the NJL image, Still nothing on the TV.
and i can't get alot of the channels, so i might try out a booster tommorrow.
What can i change in the menus to get a picture on the TV or is that section of my book fooked?

scruff1963
15-07-2006, 07:02 PM
is it a stable picture on the nj image ?ie does it stay or is it still momentary.
sorry i should have said the enigma yweb isn't that good.
what are you signal readings
red
blue
want ber snr sig
on a channel that works and a channel that doesn't.

redsquare

on most channel regardless of weather i can view them the signals are :-

SNR: 61000 - 62000
SIG: 33410

on the few channels (Like ITV4) that are good the BER ranges from 0-40

Worse channels that I can't view the BER is 100 - 300

Most of the time i view using the web i/f it crashes and becomes unavaliable till the box is restarted.

The signals look fine.
With the web interface same as with the tv if it becomes unavailable within 15 minutes it is the ucode that needs changing 95% of the time
when you start yweb does it give you the
Remote and OSD option, if so use that to change the ucode to something else.

What next other than the bin?
