In this sector is it really "you get what you pay for"? Or do brand names really demand a premium?

Can you get a decent "budget" large LCDTV? i.e. sub 1000 quid

All LCD sets I've seen so far suffer from motion blur etc. when watching SDTV, anybody see that too?

I'm seriously contemplating ordering the following :-
NOVATECH 42" LCD SKY HD approved, ATSC / DVB-T Built in Digital & Analogue TV tuners HDTV 16:9 Aspect Ratio 8ms Response Time and built in Freeview : nov-lcd42d (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. The reviews look good and for a 42" screen it's a good price, especially with an 8ms response time. Can anyone better this offer before I make my bank account seriously unhappy?

had been looking around for an lcd for months and settled on a sony bravia 40.get it on friday paid 1298 which may have been a touch dear but it was from john lewis who are giving a 5 year guarantee with all tvs so your over 400 better off than from currys etc with not havin to pay extended warranty. heard too many horror stories when not taken.

If you're looking for 42" would you not consider plasma, Currys are doing a cracking deal on a Panasonic TH42PX60B at the minute. I've got the pc hooked up via dvi-hdmi and HD looks stunning, also plays games very well. I know a lot of people say that the reason they want lcd is because of plasma screen burn issues or downscaling but when you compare the pq side by side it is a difficult decision...

personally i wouldn't buy this one. not a fan of Novatech's kit. ( too many problems with their products at work ). If you are looking at buying an LCD screen then the LG and samsung are market leaders here. What are you gonnae use it for mostly.. TV, games ??
If its for gaming i would look at this one....Samsung LCD LE40N73BDi ...nice piece of kit...mates got one and its amazing linked up to a 360...
Or if you prefer to have a good quality picture for fast moving scenes i.e football ( plasma don't suffer from motion sickness as much as lcd's..)....then look at an LG PLasma or the following Panasonic plasma :- TH42PX60B i bought this one 8 months ago after reading many many reviews...It came top of its class at a hefty price however, i paid double for what its going for now....:-((

the only negative point about plasmas is the screen burn factor. If you are careful then there are ways to stop this....

I have the new Samsung 42" plasma. Got it hooked up to everything I can think of. DVD/Comp/Dbox2/Dreambox S and Xbox. Cant fault it on anything. As for screen burn. Most plasmas now have a thing called pixel shift. This will move the screen by a tiny amount, hardly visible to the eye, to prevent screen burn. The home cinema system from Samsung is a belter also.
All in ?1900 well spent.
