Hi,
I'm about to buy a slim psp running firmware 5.02. Now my main question is how will i be able to upgrade my psp to custom firmware when the custom firmware's are a lower number than the 5.02?.

Do i have to Downgrade First?, And if so downgrade to what version?

Read the stickies for a guide, but grab latest custom firmware from here

it isnt always possible.
if the slim came originaly with 4.05 or above then theres a strong chance it is the new psp 2003/3000 with the new unhackable motherboard (at this time anyway)

if it had firmware below 4.05 and was manualy updated to 5.02 then you should be ok.
is there a box with it? if so check the lettering on it

If you find letters like: NP,NPA,A,B,C,D,E,F,G you can still hack your PSP...
Every letter over G are the new unhackble psp

although some PSP's with the letter G and with firmware 4.05 have been reported as unhackable
