Joey Barton will serve a minimum six-match ban and has been fined ?25,000 by the Football Association for his attack on former team-mate Ousmane Dabo
The full length of Barton's ban is 12 games but six of those are suspended until the end of the 2009-2010 season.

The Newcastle midfielder and one-time England international, who received a suspended four-month sentence for the incident, was handed his punishment by an independent disciplinary panel at the FA's headquarters in Soho Square this afternoon.

Barton is suspended for six matches with immediate effect, ruling him out of action until Oct 25 at least. The six further matches will be automatically invoked if the 26-year-old is found guilty of any similar charge or be sent off on the pitch for violent conduct which does not include serious foul play.
