I've been wandering what's the difference between HD and Blu-Ray has it got something to do with the different back wiring or is it the component itself? I've got a 50 inch plasma HD ready t.v.

HDTV is a designation for any HD-ready TV. An HD ready TV must have a minimum resolution of 720 vertical lines in a widescreen resolution.

Blu Ray is a disc format pioneered by Sony and is the winner of the most recent format war with rival HD DVD. It has a high capacity and is capable of storing HD video or data.

I know you didn't ask, but for the full picture

HD DVD is also a disc format, pioneered by Toshiba, which until recently was a rival to Blu Ray. Toshiba recently announced that they were dropping support for it after a number of studios announced exclusive support for Blu Ray, hence this format isn't a wise investment any more.
Hope this helps
hd = High Definition having a far better/sharper picture than normal tvs
the term blu ray comes from the colour of the laser used to read the discs a normal dvd
uses a red one
