I've had a dbox for a couple of years now, and now i'm seriously thinking of getting a satellite system. I have started reading up on stuff.
I'm leaning towards the Technomate 5400. From what i'm reading you can attach a usb storage device to it and record and play movies etc. What format does it save these recordings as. Also if i have a movie on my computer would i be able to transfer it to the usb device and play it through the technomate as you can with a dbox.

hi m8
what you need is the tm3500 d+ very good you can add a internal smal hadrive by transfering the usb from the front panel to the back very easy .
also the hardrive don't need any power as he will take it from your receiver.
if you need more help buzz me

Ok m8 just had a look at both boxes and being a newbie i can't see the obvious difference ;)
I was looking to buy a kit of motorised dish and box so i could get up and running ASAP. I found the 5400 and 90 cm dish for around ?200 on fleabay. In the description it says

"You can use the USB stick to record channels from satellite or download something in satellite receiver like patch software, update the channels list or listen mp3, watch movie no more VCR or DVD player require to watch the channels you record from satellite programs"

Would this do what i want or would the 3500 do this only.
Thanks for your help m8.

yes m8 plenty on the 3500 d+usb pvr will read fly cards and autoupdate also open few channel availeble in the air astar 19 east hotbird 13 1 west i think some gig gig channel. also you can record and watch another channel on the same transponder .
personaly i like the 5400 faster but all the recording is not all that.
i install dish and my fav is the 5000 series replacement of the 1000 series with more channel holding upto 10000.

the 5400 usb is the better box of the 2 m8............but since you've had a dbox already i'd go for a dreambox as you'll be used to linux......dreamboxes have sooo much more possilities and are generally better receivers ;)

Thanks for that m8. I was thinking of buying a complete system from fleabay so i had everything there at one ready to go. I can't find any packages with Motorised dish and Dreambox.

Can you reccomend a motorised dish package ( exluding receiver )with everything included that i would need to get up and running.
