Hi bud,i have an xbox360,but after doing the x clamp fix, ring of death, box has stopped working twice since, and now cannot seem to get rid of the ring of death again, after tightening down screws once more and even taking all apart to put fresh paste on the chips...the white stuff, not quite arctic silver paste i think.

Is the idea to get the cpu/gpu to heat and stick to the chip or is it the opposite?? tried the overheat of the one chip by just having the fan over one chip, but it got to hot and then got the 2 lights, but even so it did work for a while....but im wondering if its just scrap now,as my bro is on about buying a new one for his son, because of the fail again.

Hope you can help,cheers olly.

when doing the rrod fix you need to make sure that the heat sinks are straight and in line and you need to leave it on to over heat for 2 mins without the fan attached and then leave it to cool for 30 mins without turning it on or moving it.

I was told just to have the fan on the tall copper heatsink,as otherwise this overheats before the other one,and shutsdown before it has flowed the chip.
If i have the 3 red lights on, once put back together it does not fire up to overheat does it???

P.S,is the white paste just as good as the arctic silver paste,as thats what im using...

When my laptop kept turning off because of overheating, I initially used the white paste instead of the more expensive stuff. It lasted two weeks. I got the silver thermal paste (4 times the cost of the basic white stuff), the laptop has been going fine for over a year. There is a definite difference between the two.

Hope this helps.

Tony.
