Well, if one has upgraded from a PS2 to a PS3, then they would want to play their old games on the PS3 and take advantage of the upscaling/etc features of the PS3.

Still dont understand why that cant include it. Its not like its hardware required to do the emulation they can do it using software

opps hit the thanks button instead of quote! your wrong because it is hardware and not software that is needed to emulate ps2 games! if that was the case it would be so easy to put on all systems! its a special chip that is used! this is not needed for most ps1 games! that is why the 40gb cannot play ps2 games! Sony figured OK the market is crying out for a cheaper ps3! so in order for them to reduce the retail price they had to first reduce the cost of assembly so that its cheaper to make. hence this is why they stopped putting the chip in it! therefor saving money by not purchasing the chips! and the saving was then passed onto the consumer! but don't expect anymore price cuts!

if it is 40g ps3 then it will not be backwards compatiable. The best choice would be a 80g ps3 which is backwards compabitable hence you can play your ps2 games on it
