The AMD seems faster because of the way it processes data but the intel runs cooler and it's a more stable chip and on benchmarks the intels usually beat the AMD. I would however choose the AMD for the cost to speed ratio.

All depends on what you want. If your a gaming fan then AMD leave's Intel standing and hence all the in game adverts (more power for your cash)

I seem to find AMD a clooler and more stable chip.
but intel are bring out new chips which are cooler and faster.

i have been using AMD chips since 2001 and i think they are ok for the price, the last intel chip i used was a pentium III 800MHz, so i dont really much about the new intel cpu's

AMD are definately cooler than the intel's, as Shipoftheline said go for AMD if your a gamer and intel for all apps like video conversion, if you do a little of both or just browse the web and wordproccess then go for AMD cos they are more value for money.

I'm AMD all the way, ever since my 1gig Athlon Thunderbird about 6 years ago.

I started off use AMD in 1999 but switched to Intel in 2001 as I had reliability issues with AMD. Been happy as anything since using Intel, but to be fair, I still prefer my Apple Powerbook over anything, and it is a G4.

i prefer AMD mainly due to the price, more Ghz for your cash lol. Intels are probarbly better, but ive never had one so i cant comment

AMD is much better for me. I have both and pc with AMD processor starts faster and run all kind of programs faster than the pc with Intel...

AMD r cheaper in price, but quality is still the same, if not better...

Intel. I can't wait for a quad core next year!

Intel

I started with cyrix, then amd but fedup with have to use a massive heatsink and noisy fans just to keep it cool in the summer. sounded like a jet taking off all the time.

went to intel because my son was happy with his, I am over the moon with mine, these things go in cycles so will look again at the market when I want something new to play with.

At this moment in time Intel for me.

Defo AMD for me. My brother has a Pentium 4 HT 3.20ghz and I have AMD 64 3500, everything else is similar (ram speed/size, graphics cards etc.) and my AMD is better in almost everything.

you cant compare a 3.2 to a 3.5!

True, but not for the reason you think! The P4 has a clock speed of 3.2GHz and the AMD has a 'true' clock speed of 2.2GHz (so the 3500+ actually has a slower clock speed than the P4).

The 3500+ is a figure AMD put on their processors to compare to them to the Intels, i.e. an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor has the same 'oomph' as an Intel 3.5GHz P4 with EMT64.

This is why they run warm when you compare the clock speeds. For example, an Intel 2.2GHz CPU will run cooler than an AMD 2.2GHz CPU, but the AMD is able to perform more tasks and remain stable. However, if you compared a P4 3.5GHz with a AMD 3500+, the AMD would be running cooler (because its 'true' clock speed is much lower than 3.5GHz of the P4).
