I am looking to buy a Playstation 3 and am not sure which is the best version to buy 40gb or the 60gb? I am aware that the 60gb is no longer being made so how would that work if i had any faults with it and needed it replaced?

I'd personally get the 60Gb version as there is a more functionality and backward compatibility..

But in answer to your question, if the 60Gb was to break under warantee then Sony would fix or replace it like for like as they are obligated to do this under law....

Completely agree with NSS... 60Gb all the way.

Drawbacks of the 40Gb version:
NO backward compatibility for playing PS2 games.
Only 2 usb ports instead of 4 in the front.
No multi-memory card readers.
No SACD support.

Plus points of 40Gb version:
Cheaper - easy to upgrade hdd.
Uses Cell CPU @ 65nm - will make the machine cooler & quieter than before.
Uses less power - 135 Watts rather than 200 Watts.
Includes a battery to keep clock times even when m/c is switched off.
Newer version of the motherboard.
Smaller heat pipe - runs cooler so doesn't need the bigger one.

Thanks for that appreciate it. I will go for the 60gb then, still not sure tho if it will be better or as good as the 360. I am only really getting it for Gran Turismo whenever it decides to release.

Much much better mate. There's no question about it.
- Technically, a much better machine.
- Support-wise, a much more reliable support mechanism from Sony. Regular & frequent updates ensure that the system is constantly being improved upon.
- Features, offers default features which the 360 needs add-ons for!
- A truely complete media-station. Plays video/audio/pics onto your TV.
- Usable as a computer!!
- HDD easily upgradable... and does not even void warranty !

The only way it lags behind is perhaps it needs a better set of games. But, with such a strong backbone, its only a matter of time. They're coming out in hoardes in the US anyway. Unfortunately, UK always gets them a good few months later.

BTW - Gran Turismo is due for release on 28th Mar 2008. A long way away. You can always play the PS2 version in the meantime.

If you dont intend playing PS2 games on it, then the 40GB is the way to go. I wish I'd waited now, instead of getting a launch model.

Start with Google !!

Here's one search - ps3 + 60gb - Google Product Search (http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=en&q=ps3+%2B+60gb&um=1&ie=UTF-8)

I eventually managed to get a 60gb version. I must say i am really disappointed, it has been given far to much hype. If anyone thinks it is better than the 360 they need their heading looking at lol.

It's quieter and has Blu Ray...... But that's about it. Once developers start using cell properly we might get some decent games. But for now, 360 is the daddy. :)

why would you want to play ps2 games on it anyway? yeah sure maybe you have loads of them but its a nextgen console!! surly you would rather play the games that were designed for it! well at least i do. i sold all my ps2 games and got me a nice discount of the console! ;) isnt that a better idea :9:

well you would have a hard job finding a 60gb ps3 these days and if you do chances are its not brand new and sealed! so theres no garantee, and if you do find 1 im sure you will pay way over the odds for it! would you really want to get rid of a 40gb just to get a 60gb so u can play ps2 games? come on mate lol

I got the 40GB Version and don't see much of a downfall over 60GB.

Once you start playing PS3 games you don't want to be playing your old PS2 ones and even then you can still keep old console, I gave away my big version and bought a 2nd hand slim ps2 which does the job!!!!

I was gonna go for a 60gb version but I heard that the PS2 emulation was a bit dodgy with games crashing. I went for the 40gb version and am very pleased with it. I kept hold of my PS2 to play the old games on anyway

I went for the 40gb. Not really interested in the backward compatibility and few extra features of the 60gb, I bought the latest generation of console to play the latest games! You dont really gain much worthwile by going for the60gb version....I guess that part of thereason that sony standardise on the 40gb model.

i got the 40gb version and swapped out the hard drive for a 200gb one, works perfect and never have any issues. shame about not playing the ps2 games but heard on the grapevine that they were looking to sort that. could be just hear-say but here's hoping.
