i got me 600 pvr earlier and im well impressed with it being sooooo small,it took me
about 3 hours to flash it cos i was using the wrong dream-up :roflmao:
managed to get the right dream-up and away it went 30 mins later it was done, scanned it
picked all the channels up not compaired them with dbox but should be about the same
has anyone noticed the volume is a bit quiet even though the volume is up at full on
the 600 or is it me lol

Do you have a sound system with optical input? If you use the optical out on the 600pvr to a sond system the audio quality if fantastic. Otherwise, yes it is a little low.

Yes the sound is a little quieter without getting all tech its to do with the size of the box and keeping the heat down.:ghost:

I thought it was a driver issue thats being fixed, maybe Osborne could confirm :6:

How can a sound driver change the level of the audio decoder?

Audio decoder:

Audiocompression MPEG-1 & MPEG-2 Layer I and II

Audio Mode Dual (main/sub), Stereo

Frequency: 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 16 kHz, 22.05 kHz, 24 kHz

Output analog:

Output Level L/R 0,5 Vss on 600 Ohm

THD > 60 dB (1 kHz)

Crosstalk < -65 dB

Output digital:

Output Level 0,5 Vss on 75 Ohm

Sampled Data Filtering 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz

S/PDIF-Output optical (AC3)

Info from a 500 i would have thought it was the same on a 600. I hope it is a sound driver and can be changed.

Can the driver not be set to a higher output level?

Once its decoded the sound how can it decode it again at a higher level?

Thought the driver might dictate at what sound level the output is generated. Why does the optical output at a higher volume?

I would think its because you dont get as much loss in the cable transfer. The Crosstalk is -65 dB i think most things are normaly set at about -95 dB so i will be lower.

I think its because the sound output from the analog outputs of the 600 is via an in-built pre-amplifier (hence the ability to change volume), and therefore, goverened by the pre-amp circuitry. These pre-amp circuit themselves have a million incarnations and can differ in quality quite substantially.

Had the line out NOT been governed by the pre-amp, then the output signal would have to been a standard line-level out... which is much cleaner, stronger & better... predominantly because there are no 'modifications' to the original signal (barring normalisation of the signal).

The optical output is, I think, the line-level out... and hence sounds better (not just because its a digital signal).

I may be wrong as I've not really had the time to play with my 600 :-(... haven't even changed the tuners yet !! Its all in the pipeline for Christmas though :-).
