Hi everyone,

I am putting in new skirting after an insurance claim (They will only cover half the job), now the carpenter has put in the new skirting and laid it flush with the floor. Now i always thought you had to leave about 1/4 inch (6mm) above the floor to enable the carpet to be tucked under when that is re-fitted.

Who is right? Me or the carpenter?

Cheers,
NMC.

guess its personal preferance, if it was me and i had carpeting then i'd have the skirting flush to the floor and the carpeting finished off up against it

but if i had wood flooring then i'd have the wood down first with the skirting on top of it

Nornally the skirting is flush to the floor , When a fittter fits the carpet, they use grip rods placed about a cm from the skirting on the floor, this then holds the carpet from moving when it is stretched , the edge of the carpet is then tucked in the gap betwwen the griper and the skirting.
