The man was arrested at Blackpool Airport
A 39-year-old man was arrested after a gun was found in baggage on a plane at Blackpool Airport.
Officers boarded the aircraft, which had travelled from Girona in Spain, after it touched down on Friday.

Security staff were given an anonymous tip-off that someone on board had a handgun in baggage in the hold.

Officers found a blank-firing firearm and some ammunition but they are stressing the incident is not related to terrorism. The man was bailed.

The man, who is from Blackpool, was arrested on suspicion of firearm offences and offences under the Aviation Security Act.

Airline co-operating

He was arrested after the Ryanair flight arrived at the resort's airport on Friday afternoon and officers searched his baggage.

After being questioned by detectives he was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A spokeswoman for Lancashire Police said: "At this stage officers are not treating the incident as terrorist related nor do we believe the gun was intended to be passed on to anyone else."

A spokeswoman for Ryanair confirmed the firearm was found in the man's hold luggage.

She said that Ryanair was co-operating fully with the police investigation.
