A recent review in Computer Shopper found that Steganos AntiVirus 2007 (https://To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. was the best anti-spyware software although this costs ?20. Could be worth the peace of mind?

It also said the best FREE anti-spyware software was Grisoft's AVG Anti-Spyware Free 7.5 (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/ww/frt/0?prd=asf) although I think you only get realtime protection for the first 30 days. After that you will need to do a full scan every so often.

Personally I use Microsoft Windows Defender and don't install software that may be dubious. If you do need to run something that you are unsure about then you could try running it in a virtual PC (Microsoft's Virtual PC 2007 (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. NoAdware and PC Doctor have worked fine for me. I have been through many spyware detectors but these prove to work alongside having google toolbar to stop pop ups.

I think Spybot is the best program although that doesn't stop the spyware getting on your pc, it just removes it whenever you do a scan.

I use eset smart security aka NOD32, its a very good antivirus program and has also got antispyware built in which proves effective as i spybot never picks us spyware when i do scans.

I've not been swayed from SpyBot yet as it has always managed to keep my computer clean of Spyware no matter what sites I decide to visit. As long as you configure it correctly, you should stay clean, permanently

Ad-aware and spybot are the way to go. Zone alarms not too bad either but it hogs memory.

Spybot S&D is good because it has the "tea timer" resident program that stops registry changes made by spyware & will block harmful sites from an updatable list. c cleaner is also good to clean out cookies & other rubbish. all free. you can make donations if you like the software.

another vote for adaware and spybot - have been using them for many years. spybot i will say is a must - small program, does not need installation and does the job quickly. but i will not use it on its own and prefer to combine its power with adaware.
