Gunman shoots boxer in the head

The shooting is being investigated by Operation Trident detectives
A former British heavyweight boxer has been shot in the head and leg at a club in London.
James Oyebola, 47, was shot in a courtyard at Chateau 6 in Fulham Road, in south-west London. Three men were seen running away from the scene.

Mr Oyebola, from north-west London, is critically ill in hospital.

Detectives from Operation Trident, which investigates gun crime in the black community, are investigating the shooting.

A search of the area was undertaken by police, including armed officers, following the shooting in the early hours of Monday.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Wilson said: "I would urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in bringing those responsible for gravely injuring James to justice."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crimestoppers.

It just said on the news there that this guy was shot after telling the people that shot him about the no smoking policy in the club.

Two men have been charged with murdering a former British heavyweight boxer shot during a row over smoking.
James Oyebola, 47, was shot at the back of Chateau 6 nightclub in south-west London, in July, after asking customers to put out their cigarettes.

He died four days later when his life-support was switched off.

Rene McKoy, 19, and Kanyanta Mulenga, 22, both of south-west London, are due to appear at West London Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Mr McKoy, of Marmion Road, Battersea, and Mr Mulenga, of Tildesley Road, Putney, were first arrested in July.

A third man arrested at Gatwick Airport on 1 August has been released without charge.

Mr Oyebola, who was born in Nigeria, won 18 of his 23 fights and was a bronze medallist at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.
