Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is an online service run by Nintendo to facilitate free Internet play in compatible Nintendo DS and Wii games. Both systems can connect to the service through a Wi-Fi connection, and the Wii also has the ability to connect to the service through Ethernet. One can also connect to the service at thousands of wi-fi hotspots globally which Nintendo has made available for free to Nintendo DS users. As of May 30, 2007, over 5 million unique users had logged on to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and played over 200 million game sessions since the service launched in November of 2005

You need a wireless router to share your (probably) broadband connection to your Wii. It has built in wi-fi so it works out almost as cheap to buy a wireless router than to buy an ethernet adapter.

If you don't have broadband or don't want to get a whole router, you can just get a wi-fi dongle for your PC and share the connection ad-hoc (PC-PC - or in this case PC-Wii).
