As you will see, I am a newby...

sorry if this is a stupid question or if this is in the wrong place or if it's been covered a million times already but...what's the difference between a dbox 2 and something like the starview box 2? which is the best one to get?

Dbox is easily the better of the 2 because it is open sauce and is able to do much more. The starview box will only de-scramble cable channels and if there is a change by cable you will have to keep updating with different codes also there's alot of clone starview boxes about which have weak tuners.

Well there is many differences realy m8, as mentioned the starview boxes are good in main feature for de-coding and were as the dbox can be flashed to do a lot more.
If when thinking in the way of say if the sell off of virgin does happen to the american company then they might change the system and then the starview receivers could become big papper weights, were as the dbox can be flashed to be a different box in way like used for oither things.
At the end of the day m8 the choice is got to be yours, but checking in the two revelent sections would be good, look out for what the members with the two different boxes have to say and about software ect, and then make your mind up.
At the end of the day m8 you are the one that will be paying and so make the choice yourself but like mentioned m8, the two have many different things in the way of what they are, but they can both do the cab system.
Hope this helps m8ty ;)
