i've got a d1400 box. card was locked. so bought led simm reader to get box and ird numbers. when plugged in err2 comes up? cleaned contacts put board back now getting 8888 on display. please help.

sounds like you were over zealous when inserting the led simm lol.
the atmels chips are located within 10mm of the simm socket - seems likely you have created a poor contact with 1 or more of the atmel leg to board.
you will have to reflow thenm to fix this mate.

with a solder pro with hot air atachment. or any soldering iron that has a hot air atachment pluss some flux .... flux pen from maplins will do ... just apply a fair amount of flux on each of the atmel legs ... on both chips then give them a good blast with your hot air iron untill you see the pads what the legs are sitting on turn nice and silvery ... but dont over do it . just use common sence.

another way to try and repair, is becos the LED SIMM pushes the legs on the socket out and then don't make good contact with the original simm card so try and use a sewing needle to push the legs of simm holder in, i have repaired 2 like that with success.

ps cant see it being the atmel unless there have been took off nad put back on..

thanks for your replies. i found this guy who had solder with hot air atachment. he did it for me. cost £5. now everything working.
