Just to update everyone the firmware is now available! The only thing with it is if you have some downloaded or games the you have done yourself they may no longer work. This is due to the being unsafe to go on live. You can re do them or patch them to work again though.

Is there one for the Toshiba drive and how easy is it to flash the drive ?

The firmware that is available at the moment is for the Toshiba samsung drive. There is no new available firmware hack that is available for the hitachi drives at the moment. I will see if i can find the tutorial for the flashing process. It is not hard to flash the drive when you have all the correct programs and the correct pc to connect up to as you need a via chipset or a certain sata card to flash them i will post the tut as soon as i can find it.

Commodore4eva's Xtreme firmware 5.2A/B/C/D for TS-H943 Xbox 360
(FW package we currently recommend for this drive)
(v5.2) Disc-LockOn added for chronic open tray consoles.
It should work for MS25 drives because after they are flashed,
there is no difference between an MS28 and an MS25.
(v5.2) DVD Video disc problems fixed.
A will always read fast no matter what (Same as Originals Retail)
B will always read slow no matter what
C will always read fast until a original is put in then all backups put in after the original will read slow
D will always read slow until a original is put in then all backups put in after the original will read fast
You would want a disc to read slow if its scratched/crappy media and/or if you want your drive to be nice and quiet.
C will always read fast and if you have a problem with disc just pop in a original first and then read slow.
Originals will always read at full speed

What's the E66 error, and what's the MS25 validation?
I have the MS28 drive?
If your 360 came with an ms25 drive, but you flash it
With an ms28 firmware such as Xtreme 5.2, you'll get
Error 66. Same if you have an ms28 drive flashed with
An ms25 firmware such as Xtreme 3.0.
If your 360 came with an ms25 drive, and you flash it with Xtreme 5.2
Which has been patched to report its version as ms25, problem solved?
You won't have a problem if yours is ms28, unless you flash with an unpatched Xtreme 3.0.
(patchs will be included in the downlad of the firmware only ms25 will need to be patch
if using Xtreme firmware 5.2 and above to avoid E66 error ms25 needs to report as a ms28.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Open tray error (firmware 5.2 fix a lot of this error)
There are a large variety of
Conditions that can cause an open tray error. The major three factors are
Burner (and even firmware revision has a big impact), Media, and Len’s quality
On the drive.
For the first, the pioneer 111D has been found to be very good. The 1.29
Firmware revision (Stick with firmware 1.23) improved burns very well, however it creates a shorter
Lead-in, which can cause an optical unit to not see the leadin track if
Conditions (weak laser/media) are poor. You can cross flash your 111D with
8.19 111L firmware (Google dangerous brothers 111L) and then upgrade to 8.26
From there. That will make your 111D into a 111L which supports longer
Lead-in, labelfish and DVD-ram.
Secondly, everyone knows that verbatim is the media to go with! I have
Yet to have a single open tray error when using verbatim. However, plenty
Of people did get open tray with verbatim AND burning with a 111D. Why?
Well, that brings me to the third!
The lens quality on the optical drive (ms25 or 28) can GREATLY vary.
I have a ms25 that was what I considered a 'average' quality drive that
Booted verbatim's 100%, and gave occasional open tray errors with ritek.
With 5.0, it gave many open tray errors with ritek media, and none with
Verbatim. 5.1 fixed 99% of the open tray errors with ritek!
However, I came upon a *brand new* ms28, that’s sitting in my room right now.
Tried every few release from 3.3-5.1 on it, and only a single backup booted
Out of 15. And, strangely enough, it happened to be a ritek.
So...keep this in mind. Just because you have an ms25 or ms28 means
NOTHING on a general scale of quality. Some Pot’s are adjusted correctly
Out of the factory for good power...some are not. Some Len’s are probably
Just poorly crafted. I have not yet attempted to adjust the POT levels on
A 360 drive, but it may have good results for those of you out there who
Have massive issues no matter what burner/media you use.

to pay attention to the difference between 111L and 111.

Reading and Flashing
----------------------------
Unplug xbox360's DVD drive sata cable

Disconnect your pc sata hard disc cable and plug in into the xbox360 DVD drive.

Make sure you have a cable to stop "floating ground" going to both pc and 360 chassis.

Make sure Video cable from 360 plugged into Xbox 360 and 360 power cable plugged in.

NOTE: The following Sections 7 and 9 can be missed out on an ms25 flashed Toshiba/Samsung TSH943 drive as you don't need to turn the xbox360 on and off.

The following "bad flash recovery method" only works with via sata chipsets and is specifically for Toshiba/Samsung TSH943 with the original MS28 firmware.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*THE READING*

1. Turn on pc first
2. Boot from USB (or floppy) disc made with extreme boot maker
3. Connect 360 SATA Cable and video cable When in Dos switch on xbox360
4. AT PROMPT ENTER samread xxxxxxx xxxxx (xx is your Xbox serial number)
5. Hit enter
6. MTKflash will run A list of drives should come up asking you to select drive *DON'T ENTER ANYTHING*
7. TURN OFF XBOX360

13. Make sure the dump firmware is 256K in size (boot back to windows)

MS25 Only using 5.2 firmware and above when you boot back to windows
after you verify the firmware is 256k take the ORIG.BIN and put it in the
Extreme firmware folder you download and patch it to report as MS28.
Now use this newly created firmware to flash you drive.(Keep your Orginal Firmware in safe place EVERYONE
This has your KEY)
If you have the ms25 drive in your 360, you need to use the 52a-ms25 so it is reported as a ms28
Maximus 360 Firmware Toolbox v3.0
You can use this to verify your key
put your orig.bin file in the xtreme52 final folder. double click "make xtreme firmware"
choose your options. this will output a file called x52A.bin or whatever version you
choose. check the key on that f/w with maximus firmware toolbox to make sure it is the
same as your orig.bin. put the x52A.bin in your backups folder right next to your orig.bin.
rename the x52A to HACKED so you should have backups/XXXXX/XXXXXXX/hacked.bin and orig.bin

boot to dos and type "samhack XXXXXXX XXXXX" and you should be good to go.

Fall update 2006 included DVD Drive version lockdown on consoles manufactured
around end of May/start of June 2006. These consoles are now locked to the version
of DVD drive that came with the console. If the DVD drive is different than original
drive, Error 66 will be displayed. The response of the Atapi Inquiry command is compared
to the stored original drive response to achieve this.
Consoles manufactured before end of May 2006 do not perform this comparison. Only MS25
drives affected by Error 66 with Xtreme 5.1 should use the Make file for MS25.

X360SAM 0.6

X360SAM is a small MSDOS application which will take your original Samsung
Firmware plus a hacked firmware (such as XTREME.BIN) and will create a new
Hacked firmware containing the correct DVD key. This is done using
Sniperkilla's method (copying bytes $4000-$43FF from the original file).
Dumps the firmware that is currently on the drive,
Extracts the DVD drive key and hexedits that into the xtreme firmware.
Well, if your DVD drive is working, then obviously the key is
In the right place. So, when it extracts the key,
It will work just fine. It makes no difference whether
The key is extracted from the original firmware
Or a pre-hacked drives, because the keys are the same.
The people who say X360SAM won't work with new firmwares
Will there be a new version?" If you knew what the program was doing you'd know
That it works just fine with old, new, and existing firmwares as long as the drive
Key remains in the same range of the firmware.

------------------------------------------------------------

Hitachi-LG GDR-3120L Drive.
After opening the Xbox 360 you then must
Hook the drive to the sata on your computer. And a croc clip
To ground it. Run the slax cd
Get the drive into ModeB before being able to see it in
Windows. Once it is in ModeB run the software to
Install the firmware. It makes backups of the existing
Firmware and then patches the drive.

Really, the Hitachi is just a two-step process.

1. Get the drive in ModeB
2. Run a batch file

For getting into ModeB, I would definitely recommend
Using the Slax 2 disc burn the ISO to a blank CD.
Make sure RAID is disabled in your BIOS.

Remember to eject the Hitachi drive at the Windows loading bar.
This is essential. First, it will "unfreeze" the
Loading if it does get stuck. Second, it can prevent Device I/O errors when flashing.

Definitely install the "OpenCMDHere" powertoy,
It makes things so much easier. Then, just
Right-click on the X-LG folder, open a command window, and type in the command:

FLASH23S X ####

Where X is your Hitachi drive letter and #### is any four numbers you want.

I Lost My Key!

Backup the firmware on your drive.
But you don't need it when restoring to the original
since the flash program only overwrites a few sectors,
and the key isn't one of them.
As long as your current 360 is working,
be it hitachi or samsung, the key is still in the firmware
and you can extract it if you want.
------------------------------------------------------------
For those still having trouble with the Nforce4 Chipset try this.

1. Set bios to boot from cd first

2. Connect SATA cable from Xbox 360 DVD-ROM drive to pc SATA
#3 with nothing on 4 (don’t forget to connect a croc clip
jumper from Xbox chassis to pc chassis for ground)

3. Boot using Slax cd

4. After slax boots you shouldn't have to wait for log in:
prompt just until it hangs and screen says drive is in Modeb
(to check this eject Xbox 360 drive it should take to button
press to close then after a couple seconds it will eject on its own) you are now in Modeb.

5. Hit the reset button on pc to boot up windows

6. Now install latest NVIDIA chipset drivers download here NVIDIA Drivers (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. 7. After install forces reboot drive should be visible.

Now that drive is flashed just use the open tray unplug trick to force Modeb.

You Might Find This Useful

I have an Xbox 360 with a Hitachi drive latest garyopa firmware v47
I made all my backups using a pioneer 111 and verbatim,
Which wouldn't work, I tried datawrites which would just about read.
I then tweaked the pot down to 2.8 ohms from 3.6
But still the games would freeze more often than not
In frustration I ripped out a Samsung DVD drive out
Of my computer and took the laser out tweaked it to 2.9
Now it will read every disc I throw at it and never freeze.
So any one having real problems reading discs just swap the
Laser out some are definitely better than others.
The Samsung drive was a Samsung sd616e the beauty
Was I put the old Hitachi laser back in the Samsung?
PC DVD drive and that still works.
What made me check was

Laser will fit also I would have used that
But the drive took some finding and the other
Drive only cost $20 which is a lot cheaper than

Hitachi Key Insertion Tutorial,
Step by step guide to getting it working

I did the unthinkable and bricked a Hitachi drive,
And then set upon a quest to replace it.
I found no tutorials to help me,
So I decided to write one
Heres a link to the Tutorial

Very easy, just a couple simple commands.
How would inject the Samsung DVD keys into a Hitachi DVD drive?
I know for Hitachi to Samsung, all you need to do is use mtkflash
with the correct keys. But for Samsung to Hitachi, how is it possible
I know you use "memdump_win %1 12200 8 8000 orig.bin" to make a backup
of the Hitachi drive, and I could hex edit the Samsung keys into the Hitachi
orig.bin, but how do I write the orig.bin to the Hitachi drive?

Warranty Sticker Trick Xbox 360

If you want to keep your warranty
even if you opened your 360 for modification.
Buy a small stack or blades,
buy gas for a lighter in a small
bottle and A silver sharpie pen at business depot
etc used the new sharp blade, soaked
the blade with the gas for lighters
(small bottle) then gently start
to take new sharp blade soaked and
started gently to go underneath the
sticker going at a millimeter at a
second the gas oil helps to remove the
glue underneath the sticker as you move
the blade upward or downward depending if
you start from top to bottom or bottom to top
you'll see that it does a surprising job.
Just keep going on slowly until you've removed
all the warranty seal (sticker) and bingo you?ve
got yourself a MS seal that looks brand new with no
VOID word written across. Then use the silver
sharpie pen to do a little touch up in the back
of the sticker but just a small touch.
A blow dryer and razor and tweezers works too.
Don?t forget to keep your invoice from the store you bought your console safely!

Blimey M8 you have been busy. I can see you have put a lot of work into explaining all this to 360 owners. I have to admit its all a bit beyond me, but I am sure there are a lot of members that can make good use of your info.
Surprised to see you have not got any "thanks" from members. I would hope that 360 users follow your tuts and add to your reputation for all your work putting this together? :appl:

I have just heard on the grape vine that the new Ixtreme firmware 1.1 for the samsung drives will be released within the next 48 hours. There are new checks to make sure that you cannot be detected on LIVE with back up games.

Just to make this clear if you have already been banned then that is it your console is banned and thats it end of story! the only way you can get back on live is to get a new console. Your xbox LIVE account will still be ok and you will not loose that.

@ Shipoftheline,
Had a few problems with 360's before but bought locally, usually from Asda. Just took it back with the receipt and got an instant exchange or refund. Great service and I can highly recommend them for their service.
If you bought yours locally and its in warranty there should be no problem. One time when buying online is not always the best policy, even if you do save a few quid.

Don't know how much they are at Asda but I doubt they offer a deal like this for ?289

I think I paid ?279 from Asda With only 1 wireless controller, but no postage to pay. Games don't come into it really as I never need to buy any and I've got all of them I wanted.
Still a good price and no worries about warranty and time waiting. Only costs 24 quid for another controller, so your not saving that much.

But I do like to look around and Asda are still making a little too much on that deal for me

This is what looking around gets you ;)

Got to admit Ship thats a cracking price. I look around a lot online and not just ebay. Thats the best price I've seen for a prem pack at a high street store. I would never have even thought of looking at boots.
Seems they made quite a few cosmetic changes to their product line! Sorry bad pun, but thanks for the info.
