I recently moved my Skybox as her indoors wanted to change the lounge about, however I cannot connect the box to the phone line as the house has solid floors and when I ran a length of telephone extension around the perimeter of the room the box fails to call home, room is 36 ft long 12 ft wide cable extension run to reach phone point is 50ft, I have now had a letter from sky saying that the box is not commuicating so they will switch it off unless I run through a checklist to ensure it can communicate, has any1 else run into this with Sky??

TIA

move the box closer to the phone line and just force a callback. then move it back again.

As soon as the engineer installed it i pulled out the phone line and never put it back. No problems ever came from it

if your box was subbed, then you need to keep the phone line in for the first 12 months, in the contract it says you agree to this.
after 12 months no bother. alos if you have more than one box you need then all plugged in as sky wants to check you have both boxes in your house and you havent sold one.
you can easily get artound this by doing a manula call back once a month or 2

Lol this is always a funny topic to read, since I work for sky and know all the crap on it, Basically if its a standard box dont worry about anything sky only send you warning letters to scare you into compliance, just ignore it and in the small (very minute) possibility they follow through just ring them up and threaten to cancel ("the engineer installed it with no phone line" will soon shut them up, since they know almost every subcontractor dont waste time on running phone lines like me lol).

If it is multiroom or sky+/HD then I am affraid you have to have your phoneline connected, you can get away with it not being connected but since these boxes (sky+/HD) have the anytime tv sky doesn't want anyone using the old order movie then dissconnect phone line trick to get free programs/movies etc, so anyone not connecting there phone line to one of these boxes for longer then a month will soon be hit with a ?26 penelty ontop their monthly subscription (I have been to many a service call where the kids took the phone line out etc and the customer was billed for at least 6 months before they noticed the increased ?26 ontop their direct debit, sky wont tell you there adding this penelty also so be wary).

Is the 12month contract tie, the same for the sk+ or HD, or do these have to be connected permenantly?
Cheers in advance

Sky+, HD and Multiroom subscriptions have to be connected permanently.

Sky+ and HD - Due to the recording features and the risk of someone recording a Box Office movie without the phone line connected.

Multiroom - They want to make sure all of your boxes are in the same house, otherwise you could pay the price for a multiroom subscription (I think it's ?10 - ?15) and then give a box to your mate and split the subs.

My sky digibox has literally never been connected to a phone line in the last 7 years and I am still getting my full subscription. Maybe with HD it is different but I know people with Sky+ who are in the same position as me.

MY subscription is Sky+ and multiroom, and they did make a charge when the box hadn't phoned home, so periodically (approx once a month) I now move the box closer to my phone line and let it call home, incidentally they did refund the ?25 charge they had made on my account when I spoke to them and explained the situation with the box being 50ft away from the phone line and the call failing and subsequently moved the box near the phone line to phone home, they explained as above that is was to prevent me having multiple boxes and giving a box to friend and splitting the subs
