with only a crossover cable its hit and miss
you have just got to keep trying press up and power button till the lcd goes blank then let go saves unplugging it all the time.
get yourself a nullmodem cable if you cant get it to flash with just
the crossover cable.

use dbox commader from the downloads section to generate a bootlog via connection with a null modem cable

right basicly....iv screwd it up a bit i think

was recomended that in flashed sporster onto by dbox, which was fine i done so, after it flashed the box rebooted and gives me the "sporster screen" and on the LCD says loading kernal and it just hangs there forever

now iv trying to use the flashing assistant to reflash the image or even a diffrent image.

getting error - (error10048 in function bind Address already in use) (or even a diffrent image)

but im getting no joy atall with it. obviously the flash has changed the ip on the box

so with it connected i went through ipconfig, get an ip ok, can ping it and its ok

but i cant logonto it via ftp or anything. iv really went and done it this time.....can anyone help?

'It would appear im not on my own with this prob':bomb:

why not try flashing another image on using ifa and then trans service and bouqets files across afterwards.

Rename the image to
mtd3.img
use ifa version 1.56
and try again post everything you get in the com window.

Make sure the image is the correct size...it should be 8,064KB.

managed to get it working in a fashion
finally i flashed with Original Sportster image from download section (thanks)
none of the other images including commando would not get past loading kernel stage.
I'm not quite sure whats wrong with the box
it won't autoload kernel (takes an age to load) but that sportster image seem to forcing a boot from somewhere?

I think I am having a similar problem but slightly different. I had the dreaded Kein System and had to use IFA to flash Sportster 1.73 to box.
Managed to do it after many tries.
When I start the box I get the Sportster image but when it gets to loading kernal the box stops and goes into standby.
Cannot connect to box with FlashFxp because don't know IP and cannot reflash box with IFA because when the box is turned on to start flash it goes through the process of loading Sprtster and standby again.

 Any suggestion would be appreciated. Haven't got null cable.

Just an update on my last post.

Devilfish
you say in post above
"Make sure the image is the correct size...it should be 8,064KB" I get 16128 blocks which is twice the amount. Could this be the prob?

Hi m8
As long as the image you are flashing is what Devilfish says dont worry about the size of the block transfer
You really need to get a nullmodem cable and your worries will go away
but until you do try this.
Check you have done all this m8
Go to control panel then network connections
right click on local area connect and pick properties.
there you will see underneath connect using....your network card
next to this will be a configure tab click on it.
then click on the advanced tab
you need to look for flow control, duplex, media type or connection type
drop the value tab arrow down and set to 10baseT_halfduplex or try automatic or autosense
Then
1.Install IFA in to C:/ check that IFA has been Added to the exceptions in windows firewall, then turn the firewall off,
2.Disable ALL antivirus programs...If you have any Norton crapware disable worm blocking aswell
you might even have to unistall it this includes systemworks aswell
there is a removal tool in the downloads to get rid of anything norton leaves behind
3.Disable any popup stoppers.
4.Give your pc network card a static ip.
IE:PC ip:192.168.1.201 (not needed with ifa but set to this anyway)
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
5.Disable any other network cards you have installed including wireless
6.Disable ics (internet card sharing if available)
7.Ethernet crossover cable connected
8.Nullmodem cable connected if you have one
9.Turn off box,
10.Put Image in C:/ and rename it to mtd3.img
11.Start IFA
12.Select networkcard
13.Tick nullmodem if you have one
14.Select image in C:/
15.Press ok, if it goes to a comm window turn on the box.
16.If you dont get flashing in the lcd on the box try holding the power and up button in till the lcd goes blank
then let go wait about 10 seconds
keep trying a few times
or hold power and up button in till lcd goes blank then let go of power button then up button 2 seconds later
it will go through 3 tests in com window then stop at
dbox ppcboot> type in "boot net then press enter
if it does not start to flash
then something is still blocking the network.
Hope this helps.

:wink:Thank you fergalsworld. Have managed to flash box. Don't know if it is a coincidence or not but I had much more success with the Null cable connected. Apart from the fact that I could see what was happening, the box seemed to pick up IFA straight away after many failures without the Null cable.

i have flashed afew boxes and find ifa the easiest and best but sometimes 1.5.6 works and sometmes 1.9.0 works better i think different boxes react to different software ,, sometimes ifa works first time sometimes it can take up to 50 tries before it starts flashing depending on the dbox,,,but it always works in the end
