Seems a lot of people are ditching their xbox 360's and buying the ps3, seen one yesterday for as cheap as 70 quid yesterday so the seller could pay of what he owed on a ps3.

I think if you had a problem with a ps3 you would have to take it beck to the shop you got it from just like anything else you buy "unless your past the 30 days" , very good if you did manage to get a ps2 for free but I couldnt see it happening sony would want the old one back to see what was wrong with it.

You would have a better chance getting a ps3 from Jesus :roflmao: Accept Jesus Christ and Get a Free Playstation 3 (http://www.landoverbaptist.org/news1206/ps3.html)

The normal exchange from Sony for a PS2 is 60 quid exchange for the old 1. All you need to do is find one in a bin or a cannibalised 1 and exchange it, so thats a good price for a new 1. I hope the same deal will work with the PS3 when its been out a couple of months.
What would really make it worthwhile for me is (apart from a 100 quid price drop) , if it was backwards compatable so I could still play some of my PS2 games and if it played backups. I understand the backup hack is in the pipeline, so we will just have to wait and see.
By the way have any of you got yours yet? Or are you too busy playing to post anymore? :woot:

Thanks to (IG) Mart and hardboil9 for sharing your first impressions. I agree it needs an iso loader quickly as after forking out so much for the console all most people would be able to afford would be the free demos. Probably a good job theres not too many great games out yet to give people a chance to sell their organs first.
I looked at a list of compatible games and it gives an indication of which ps2 and ps1 should work and what issues if any. Perhaps more interestingly was the fact that many games were not listed at all, which is obviously marketting strategy because the "wont plays" would be too long and include many peoples favorites.
On that theme my next question is; Have you tried to play any ps2/ps1 games on it yet? Until more games are available I would have thought that would be quite important to people, so that they have some gaming variety, or until they can afford the new games?

Now I'm not at all sure about this but can you load your "backups" onto the harddrive and play them from there? If not directly is it possible to transfer the data to a pc and then across to the PS3's harddrive? I may be talking complete ballcocks of course but I thought I read or heard something like that somewhere when they came out in the States and just thought it might be worth a try? :genius:

I believe original PS1 & PS2 games will work fine as the CD/DVD will have the BOOT Sector on it. Copies do not have this Boot Sector therefore rely on hardware modification to bypass/emulate this feature.
Can't see that copying to hard drive will overcome this as the same problem will exist other than of course the hard drive is 'specialised,

If original games cd's and Dvd's work on it then maybe a swap magic disk or PS2 HD Advance disk will work on it as well? This should bypass the bootsector and allow you to install the copy onto the hdd. Once installed it should not need to look for a bootsector? It worked on Ps2 so I thought it might be worth trying considering the cost of new games.
All hypothetical of course and I havent got a ps3 to try it but it worked for my ps2.

OK Diablo this is getting too technical but very interesting.
I don't think Swap Magic or HD Advance Disk will be compatible with PS3 as I think it relies on software/hardware.I haven't seen any advertised for PS3....Yet!

Remember that the hardware & technology built in is something completley new.
Also I dont have a HDD on my PS2 so am assuming potential problems. Do you need to have the original CD/DVD inserted to allow you to play from HDD.
Can't wait to break into my sons birtday present on 30 April and 'EXPERIMENT'

@ bobbykerr, You need the disk of any flavour initially to load onto the drive. That being the main point of it because HD advance does the bootup, then you install and play from the hd drive alone. At least thats how its supposed to work! I have a harddisk on my ps2 and use hd advance, but its a bit hit and miss whether it works or not either with originals or backups. I bought mine used off Ebay so there could be a problem in my setup I'm not aware of. In theory though it could work with the ps3 if it will read the HD advance or Swapmagic disk because as I say they provide the boot sectors. Maybe no one else thought about it yet that we know of here and the Yanks have far more money than sense. Their games are cheaper anyway. No ones had the chance to experiment properly here yet and I'm sure many people much cleverer than me are working on it, but a bit of lateral thinking sometimes goes a long way. Besides it's always fun to try these things and your not going to break anything. It will either work or it wont.

Ah! just had a thought, maybe the bootup is completely different on a ps3 so it wont accept it? But then it would'nt accept any of the other ps1 or ps2 games either would it? . Confusing my bloody self now  .

Just seen one in Morrisons and was rather surprised as they've never sold consoles before. For them to start with the PS3 seems strange as it has to be the most expensive item in the whole store

I really want one, my mate has one and I was playing it yesterday. The F1 is fantastic, especially in HD.
