If you grew up as a young teen in the 1980s you will have been more than aware of the Commodore 64 PC, a machine that ran office/work applications but which could be hooked up to the TV for playing games. It was massively popular, selling 17 million units between its launch in 1982 to its demise in 1994. And now, from the ashes, Commodore is coming back. Commodore Gaming has announced that a new breed of gaming PCs are on the way.

?25 years ago, Commodore launched the best selling personal computer of the late 20th Century, the C64, and defined the early computer games experience for millions of people worldwide,? said Bala Keilman, CEO for Commodore Gaming. ?We are privileged and excited to bring the Commodore brand back to the gaming community and mark a new chapter in its history with this exceptional machine. We're sure that it will deliver what gamers need and want.?

The new PCs will be launched at Cebit later this week and I?ll have more news then. Exciting as it all sounds though, back then there was nothing like the competition there is now. And the Commodore 64 was unique. But, now, a new llife as high-end gaming systems? That not a competitive space at all, is it? And will these machines be anything more than a PC with a Commodore badge?

Hopefully they can add something new instead of just adding a badge to a computer and hopefully they will start making commodore games again.
