Hi was wondering if anyone has a Xbox 360 hd-dvd drive? I have recently purchased one and to be honest do not think that the hd quaility is very good, It looks kinda blurry. Does anyone else have the same problem or is it just my movies.

I don't have the HD-DVD drive yet and I'm thinking of getting one soon. Just to say that I broke my original HD progressive scan lead that I use to connect to my HD LCD screen @720p. I replaced them with a third party lead for cheapness, BAD IDEA.. the colours look washed out, the picture loses contrast and the TV seems to lose sync now and again, something that never happened with th M$ lead.
So I'll be buying an official lead soon to get my picture quality back!
Just wondered how you were connecting to the HD TV you have to see if that could be a problem and also what resolution you normally use as my TV can support 1080i but has a native res of 720p (i cant see any difference as I think my TV actually downscales a 1080i picture!!)

Hi connecting to my tv via hd componant cable and my tv can take up 1080i but have it set to 720p as I find that the quailty on that is alot sharper than 1080i.

I was looking at getting the HD-DVD drive.
But you should ask your self few Questions.

How much DVD's do you buy?
I buy very little DVD's if any.
So i don't think spending ?120 on Hd DVD drive. As far as i'm aware, M$ won't release games on HD DVD yet.

Althou it is one of the cheapest around and until i need it for more than the odd HD DVD i barrow or buy. I will not get it. Price might also have dropped by then to :)

It seems to be region specific.
A mate got one from the statesand it plays region 1 and 2
while another mate got one in dublin and it'l only play region 2...

anyone confirm this??

It should be region free for hd-dvd movies, but lock to the region of your 360 for normal dvds.

As for the quality - mine looks superb - I am using component cables and it is fab... how are you connecting to your tv mate?

Mine is superb and i connect via the VGA cable to my 40" samsung LCD.

and its worth remembering that anyone buying THIS MONTH can download a form from Xbox.com and get 5 free Hd DVDs.....

now when you consider that most HD DVDs cost at least ?15... and the player itself is ?100 from Gamestation.... thats bloody good value. It basically means you get to choose and pay for 5 movies - and get the player for ?25!

bonus!

and as an erlier poster said - dont go for third party cables, get the official ones.

Totaly love my 360 HD Drive. Got it through my Onkyo 7.1 system with an Acer HD projector onto a 110" Screen. As Lynz says, it's sharper on 720p as oppsed to 1080i (don't have 1080p unfortunately).

MS have said 'no plans' for a bluray drive. They've said they want to test the fesability (sp?) of HD content being delivered via Live.

I'm sure I've read BenQ's official statement as "no comment".

Everyone else is widely expecting a bluray drive to be released for the 360 at some point.

I don't have any flavour of xbox so don't stay on top of the 360 news, but MS are supposed to have a few 'big' but currently secret announcements at and around the E3 Expo this year...
