Theres a guy in my area that will buy the modchip, solder it to the PS2 board, and professionally test it for ?15. You can also buy "Swap Magic" kits for around ?8 which are the same, and do play backup games; the only difference is that your warranty is not void and the internal board does not have to be modified.

I would recommend the swap magic disks over the modchip; even though its a bit of a pain to have to swap the discs each time you want to play.

Have you got an old PS2 or a newer slimline one?
If you have an old one, I would recommend getting HD Advance and a Hard Drive, games will load a lot quicker from you hard drive rather than using the DVD drive. You would also need a Network Adapter so as to fit the hard drive. If you have a slimline PS2 then you could buy USB extreme (which does the same job as HD Advance) although I have heard the games play slowly from a USB hard drive.

You can only play a downloaded version of Swap Magic with a chipped playstation as it is pressed like normal games rather than burnt.

You cant really download swap magic as you would need to put it onto a CD-R/DVD-R, and this would be classed as the PS2 as a 'copied game' ;) So you'll need to buy the proper thing, which is a legit CD.

First result on Google: HDAdvance, HD Xtreme, HD Advance, HDXtreme, Swap Magic, Swap Magic 3.6 UK (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Seems to have gone up since I last checked.
I havent checked other sites; that one was just the first I stumbled upon :)

Remember to get the right version - for slimline PS2 you will need the other tool instead of the slide card. See that site for more info.

Also: HDAvance: HDAdvance, HD Xtreme, HD Advance, HDXtreme, Swap Magic, Swap Magic 3.6 UK (http://www.playstationdirect.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=22)

Hi M8,

The next best option is to get a memor32 memory card and flash it with the memento firmware. This works on all region PS2's and enables you to play backups which have been patched using the patcher that memento provide.
I myself am using one and it works perfectly fine. This way you dont need to open and solder the motherboard hence keeping the guarantee intact.

Mine cost me 35.12gbp including p&p but I tell u its definitly worth it.

You can also load .elf files from the memory card or usb/ide hdd.

If you have an old ps1 disc and a copy of armax handy, do a memory card exploit and install cogswap loader. It does the same job as swap magic and its free.
