Am currently just looking into alternitive systems to sky for my pub as its going to cost me 7.5k a year before vat.

I know its a gret area but I wouldn't be showing the games between 3 and 5 on sat anyway just to make sure nothing happens.

Any recomendations?

Also does anyone use an alternitive in conjunction with sky just to get more channels as I may do this, how do sky feel about it then?

it's entirely your choice m8 you can get specialised pub systems or you could do it the cheap way and buy a system and hope for the best things stay open with patches and keys (not recommended for a pub though.;) )

I did say that in the first post that I would not be showing the 3pm games, i have read about these cases also with interest and know how to cover my ass.

Am looking to get somthing a bit cheaper than sky, I am also using sentanta just now for the SPL, is there any channels that show this?

I'm not 100% but I am sure if you go legal as in an art card sky can do sod all, If i remember they took a landlord in bolton to court last year for showing 3pm matches of premiership but because he had paid for a valid card the judge ruled in his favor and sky lost.

I've been looking on the outside of the building more closely and there is an old dish and cabling still on the outside wall (not the current sky dish) from a previous system, it must be approx 7-15 years old, will this dish and cable still work fine for current usage?

Also as its mine i won't have any problems with plannig permission for an extra dish :)

Call Sky Sports and then Setanta, and threaten to cancel your subscription in favour of the other package if they don't offer you a sizeable discount.

EDIT: You're not a current subscriber...

I wonder what would happen if you bought two Freeview systems, one for public use, the other for private use, subscribed to Setanta Freeview, and "accidentally" put the Setanta decoder card in the wrong box? Perhaps use a nearby residential address for the subscription, so they don't work out that one of their subscribers actually lives in a pub.

you'd be a lot better off getting a new dish m8 as old dishes have them big old square lnb's on which are no good,so you'd need a new universal lnb,but the brackets are just plastic and usually snap co you'd be better off buying a new dish probably about a 1.2m you can get them cheap enough

you could buy a motorised system from anywhere like fleabay or satellite shop, buy a official sub card which work a box like a TM1500 or dreambox and just hire a installer to fit it for you

**** forgot to put the link in there - eBay.co.uk: TECHNOMATE 1600 + PLUS BEST MOTORISED SYSTEM 110cm DISH (item 250087124598 end time 23-Mar-07 21:47:07 GMT) (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=250087124598&rd=1&rd=1) -

I can fit the system easily enough its just the se tup that i don;t have a clue about, so would have to hire somone in for that.

Apart from the dish, box etc i would need a card (nova, art...) and it is better for the box to be connected to the internet to update??

Seems easy enough to me, have had a compnay asking for 2k a year to install and update for me, seemed too much to me.
