Hi,

I am new to networking and have a little problem. I have connected my PC and Laptop to the wireless router. I can transfer files from the pc to laptop and no problem. The laptop uses the internet no problem. The problem is the laptop connecting to the PC. Everytime I try and add a new network place on my laptop for the pc it says that if cant find it basically. I have allowed all the ip's in the firewall but just doesnt seem to let me do it.

Does any know why this is any other info that is needed please let me know.

Regards Sposa

p.s TIA

Simplest method of totally setting up a wireless network is use a prog called Network Magic. It does it all at the click of one button.
File sharing, printer sharing, network security, access your home network from any PC anywhere in the world. It does all this and more.

Hi mate the simplest place to start is by enabling file sharing on the pc and making sure the computers are on the same workgroup name .you can also connect to the computer without it being on the same workgroup by typing the computername precedeed by \\ so if the computer name is PC_Main for eg type \\PC_Main in the explorer address bar and hopefully it will appear for you.

Hi mate I had this problem aswell and simple way I found to install IPX/SPX protocole and same name for work group. and create shared folder on both systems.

Good luck.

Just make sure you are weary of port 139, make sure that it is safe
otherwise you have left your hd open to anyone

I use Network magic to set up the network, then shut the thing using Zone Alarm Security Suite and lock it tighter than a ducks bum.
In almost 5 years of having a home network of one description or another I have yet to have a full blown network intrusion. I get the usual port scan warnings and dopey gits trying to log on to the network. One of my neighbours who thinks he is a bit of a whizz on PCs has been trying to use my connection for nearly three years now and It has resisted everything he has thrown at it. I can log onto his anytime i want....( I sorted his PC for him when it went bang and he had a nice wee text file called "Network settings and password". I copied it to a USB stick and hey...look I have another 10MB line to play with ...lol
