It's the HD-A760GX.

It will burn DVD+R, -R, +RW, -RW and +R double layer disks.

One thing to watch out for, with all LiteON A/V products, is that they only write in the newer DVD+VR format. This format is superior to the old DVD-Video format, as it allows multiple recordings to be made to the disk, at different times if you so desire.

However, the lack of DVD-Video recording support can be a real shame if you want to share your recordings with someone with an older DVD player that doesn't support DVD-VR format. This is the only reason why I haven't bought a LiteON DVD recorder for myself.

Are you getting dvd-vr mixed up with dvd+vr? I know that dvd-vr wouldnt work on most dvd players but I thought that dvd+vr did but dont quote me on that.

DVD-R is a type of blank recordable disk.

DVD-VR is a format for storing data on the aforementioned blank disk. In this respect, it's more like FAT32 or NTFS, and nothing at all like a hard disk or USB flash drive.

Ignore the fact that I typed DVD-plus-VR in my post above: that was a slip of the keyboard.

You said dvd+vr not dvd-vr, I know someone with one of these recorders and have got dvds from them and am able to watch them on my dvd player which is a pioneer. DVD plus VR - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_plus_VR)

You're right. I cut and pasted the details from Lite-On IT Corporation Europe - HD-A760GX (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. and it does say DVD+VR there.

And, as you say, DVD+VR is different to DVD-VR - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-VR)

What's more, I've just checked the specifications for LiteON's cheaper and compact DVD recorders (the LVW-1105HC+ and the newer DVD+R DL compatible DD-A100X), and they both record in DVD+VR format, as opposed to DVD-VR.

I'm not quite sure why the user review sites I've looked at have reports of DVDs burnt with the LiteON recorders not working in standard players. Either the recorders have recently had a firmware update to support DVD+VR instead of DVD-VR, or some people have been using crummy old DVD players that can't read DVD+R and/or DVD-R disks at all.

I apologise to LiteON for maligning their products!

Hi all

I have a liteon HDA740 GX, which worked great up untill the warrenty timed out, now the DVD drive wont read any disks at all. I have been looking for a replacment DVD drive to fit into the machine but need to know (a) which drive will have full functionality and (b) does anyone know if there is a tutorial which shows how to replace the drive into the machine. thanks in advance
