No offence but i usto repair Sony Monitors and they are actually the worst companey around for quality of components and picture quality I would not go near sony if i could help it form my experence Philips are the leaders in most electronics, and they have just invented 3d plasma screens (great for game'ing)
but not avalable to the domestic market regarding price ect..
good luck

One of them shopping channels on freeview are doing good deals on lcd tvs, they had a 53" hdtv for under 2 grand the other night and the picture on it was amazing, think it was a JVC rear projection lcd. Got jvc freeview box and a nice stand with it to.

Sony bravia is a good buy...make sure you set it up properly, don't just turn it on and expect a good picture, it tkes a wee bit of work.

if your after a LCD the Sony or Sharp make very good units and the philips one are pants the sony bravia W range are very good value atm a 46" 1080p screen is under 2k, but i would still say go with plasma's they just look so much better and for under ?2000.00 you can pick up a great Pioneer 50"

just helped put in a 46" sony bravia kdlx2000 for a friend who has just started looking into hd.

stunning picture quality after a few tweaks on colour and back light.

plasma v lcd debate goes on a bit but you didn't say if you were going to have a pc connected.

my father in law isn't interested in hd (doesn't know how to turn a pc on) and is more than happy with his panasonic viera 42" plasma using sd.

from what i've read, plasma has rectangular pixels and a lower native res for pc output.

a nice 1080p lcd with one to one pixel mapping will just make you grin all over.
