Hi All,

first new thread so please go easy.

I bought a DBox2 on ebay with Davinci image and what turns out to be 1xl and advertised as avia600(??) chip.

After a bit of faffing about I got the box tuned in and was really happy with what I got. However, a day or so later I noticed that some channels would not tune in immediately, the sound was there but the picture was not. Then after a while I realised that some channels were really poor. They would break up, the picture would be really scrambled and the sound was very high pitched squeaks and clicks and I was worried I might damage my home cinema it is piped through.

I have contacted the seller and read quite a bit. So far I have experimented with different EMU settings (I believe these are soft cams, can anyone confirm?) and Ucodes (I cannot find any explanation as to what these are) and all to varying effect.

The channels most affected are porn (which is rubbish anyway, dvds rock) music which I can live without and shopping (speaks for itself) the main bummer is movies which I love and can watch for about half an hour, then I have to reboot twice and always seems to happen at key moments!

With this in mind I would obviously like to overcome my problems. I suspect the next thing to try is flashing a new image. I have two problems here, firstly I need 8 posts to get one and secondly am a little sceptical about doing this for the first time. I work in IT and have a basic familiarity with UNIX and networking so am sure I will be OK, plus I have read a few newbie step throughs.

So, the reason for my post is to ask your advice:
Have I covered all the basics?
Do you have any advice for a virgin flasher?
Do you think a new image is likely to solve it (could it be hardware related)

I learn quickly and have a good head for this kind of stuff, I've just learnt in the past that preparation can not be underestimated hence my lengthy post.

Any replies will be greatly appreciated.
Si

On a chirping channel press the red then blue button and post the ber,snr and sig readings.
Take the modem out of the box and the card readers, really easy to do
make sure it has a good airflow around and put nothing on top of it.

Hi fergalsworld
BER 0
SNR 64000 ( coonstantly variable between 63500 and 64500)
SIG 28270
What do these mean?

I suspected overheating if this is what you are trying to eliminate with airflow but it does it from cold. Is there an electrical advbantage to removing them?

Hi,
read the link and it was very useful although still struggling with the problem. I haven't taken the box apart mainly because the seller says that it does have a limited guarantee as long as the box has not been opened. He's put a little customised sticker over the case which is canily well stuck!!! If the fault comes down to hardware I wouldn't like to lose my money having opened it up.
Did my signal data strike anything with you guys?
On another note I have made my 8 posts to get in the downloads section but it seems I need to make more to get to download the files, do you know how many that is or do I need authentication from you guys?
Thanks for your hepl so far!
Si

Another thing I have tried is removing the splitter as there is only one cable into the front room but unfortunately to no avail

I tried all combinations and it didn't make a difference. I have now flashed the new sportster 1.08 and it has solved one problem in that the box always tunes straight to the channel. Before I had to change up and down a few times on some channels before it would get the picture

But now also, I can't find the menu option to change the cam settings to retry your suggestion. I only have the ucode menu
