    Sky TV price rise shock

SKY TV has announced that some customers will see their prices rise from April 1st. Here’s how to find out if you are affected by the increase.

Some Sky customers will see the cost of their monthly bills increase from this April.

The satellite TV firm has just announced the rise which will affect some TV, Broadband and Sky Talk products.

Sky says it’s worked hard to keep price changes as low as possible and on average, customers will see an increase of less than £2.50 per month.

The firm also states that many Sky products will remain at their current price and, for some products, this will be the first increase in two years.

Speaking about the changes, Sky UK CEO Stephen van Rooyen said: “Not all customers will see their bills increase with many Sky products remaining at their current price and, for some products, this will be the first increase in two years.

“We continue to invest in content, products and services that our customers love, offering both new and existing customers great value and more choice through flexible packages.”

Here’s a full breakdown of the new charges

    • The Original, Variety and Box Sets bundles will each increase by £1.50.

    • Full Sky Sports on a rolling contract is increasing by 50p.

    • Some broadband products are increasing by £1.01.

    • Some call rates will increase, however this will not impact calls made within inclusive call packages.

    • Sky Voicemail will increase by 75p.

Any customers impacted will be notified of changes to their bills by letter or email between now and the 23rd March.

Sky says that it’s continuing to invest in its service with more Sky Original Productions and high-end partnerships with HBO, Showtime and Cinemax plus the introduction of more 4K content.

It also adds that it has secured the sports rights for the EFL and Carabao Cup until 2024, Formula 1 to 2024, Premier League until 2022 and England cricket until 2024.

The news of the price increase comes as Sky has just launched a new NOW TV service which offers a cheaper way to watch TV.

The NOW TV Stick plugs directly into the back of TVs allowing users to access a huge variety of content without signing up to a subscription.

The Roku-powered streaming stick has access to Sky channels, including Sky Atlantic, Sky One, Comedy Central, FOX, Discovery, MTV, Sky Arts, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, and more.

These are accessed with Passes, which can be bought contract-free for a pre-determined duration.

To make the NOW TV Stick even more attractive, Sky is offering a budget deal to those who buy one at launch.

This means you can grab the device itself, usually £14.99, and two months of Entertainment pass shows for £19.99

This basically means you get Sky TV for a fiver.

Here’s the full range of bundles currently on offer which include NOW TV's Stick.

    • Two-month NOW TV Entertainment pass, to watch 11 of the best pay TV channels and over 300 binge-worthy Box Sets – £19.99

    • One-month Sky Cinema pass, to enjoy over 1,000 movies on demand – £19.99

    • One-month Sky Sports pass, to see the biggest live matches and events on 10 Sky Sports channels – £29.99
