Microsoft will launch a new Xbox One controller next month, and it'll have a standard headphone jack. That means you'll be able to plug in your cans or earbuds without an adapter, and keep the explosions and other game noises to yourself.

The standard controller at the moment doesn't have a standard headphone port. If you want to use headphones with it right now, you have to buy an adapter.

Microsoft let slip its plans in a support article. It includes a diagram of the controller complete with a 3.5mm port (i.e. headphone jack). It says this is "only available on controllers released after June 2015".

Microsoft will hold a press conference on June 15 at E3, the games expo. It's fair to assume it will make the official announcement then.

It could also hint that bigger hardware changes are on the horizon. Like Sony, Microsoft has released numerous incarnations of its previous consoles, with each becoming slimmer as the technology advances. The Xbox One has been available for about 18 months now, so it might be too soon to expect a slimmed down console to make an appearance at E3. But with the console's price dropping on a regular basis, we wouldn't put anything past Microsoft.
