Ubisoft will no longer make games for the PS3 and Xbox 360, the firm has announced. It will also launch virtual reality games next year.

While it will still release titles for the PS4 and Xbox One, the only of its games to come out on last generation consoles will be its casual rhythm series Just Dance.

Ubisoft is the firm behind the huge Assassin’s Creed series of games. The latest – Assassin’s Creed Syndicate – was announced this week, and will only launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The company also announced that it will release a “certain number” of games on virtual reality platforms next year. The Oculus Rift will go on sale at the start of next year, as will Sony’s Project Morpheus. The HTC Vive, meanwhile, will go on sale later this year.

Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot said such devices had huge potential for gaming.

“We are very bullish about the potential,” he said. “We think it is going to bring more players to the universe of video games, and we are going to come with our brands.

“We will have a few titles in the first year and we will have regular games coming following that.”
