If you're sick of energy companies charging the earth while doing the earth a lot of damage, help is at hand. This is the Tesla Powerwall, a battery for the home that can attach to an indoor or outdoor wall and that can power your house. It's green, clean, and very mean.
It stores energy from solar panels, so you won't have to use up mother nature's resources to power your home. However, you can also juice it up from the mains at night, say, when it costs less, and then use it to power your home through the day. Ingenious.
It will also come in handy in case of a power cut. No more lighting candles for you.
The 10kWh model is designed for use during blackouts, and costs $3,500 (?2,274). The 7kWh unit, meanwhile, is designed for daily use, and costs $3,000 (?1,949). Neither is exactly cheap, but when you consider the savings, we're sure they'll pay for themselves before long.
Both are available to pre-order in the US now, and will ship in the next three to four months. They will also launch in Australia and Germany before the end of the year, though there's no word on a UK release.
