Don't know if this will help ....but I had a external hard drive that I could not reformat on my laptop or pc ...as i could not see the hard drive at all on these.

So I thought I would try plugging it into my vu duo plus and see what would happen....... which it did find and formatted it for me, I could see it and use it once more on my pc and laptop Hidden Content ....hope this helps...... that's if you have a satellite Receiver to try it with.

you could also try deleting the partition using the disk manager in windows.

control panel> system and security>admin tools>create and format partitions

this then takes you into disk manager

You can also take hard drive out of caddy and purchase one of these from ebay for about ?14,2.5" and 3.5" SATA USB 3.0 Docking Station.

Plug into pc/laptop and place your hard drive in it.You can then check drive for virus's,format etc,can be a great investment.

does the diskpart utility in windows not clear the mbr when you use the clean command?

in over 30yrs of virus removal I never trust formats, re partitioning, partition removal etc etc

I work with a diff 'view' or required outcome, recovering the data that the user wants back

I always use various tools to find and remove the virus or check there is not one there.

even down to taking individual platters out and placing them in other drives.

gotta say quite a few times esp on raid drives, the virus you think is gone by simply a reformat or a wipe/re partition, the virus still resides on the disc and returns to bite you...
    many months later.

    its an interesting game
    its nice here....
