Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO and face of Facebook, and his wife are donating $25 million to the Center of Disease Control Foundation to help stave off the deadly Ebola virus in West Africa.

?The Ebola epidemic is at a critical turning point. It has infected 8,400 people so far, but it is spreading very quickly and projections suggest it could infect 1 million people or more over the next several months if not addressed,? Zuckerberg posted on Facebook.

?We believe our grant is the quickest way to empower the CDC and experts in this field to prevent [a large scale outbreak],? he added.

Diseases such as polio and HIV are prime examples of diseases that have taken or will take several decades (if not more) to keep under control. Moreover, modern-day travel is allowing diseases that were once isolated to quickly spread.

A nurse in Texas recently contracted Ebola when she came into contact with an Ebola-stricken man from Liberia. The man purportedly knew that he had Ebola, but did not disclose such information upon checking into the hospital.
