he BlackBerry Q30 should offer a QWERTY-enabled smartphone with a larger display than existing BlackBerry 10 devices with physical keyboards.

A leaked image claims to show the BlackBerry Q30, codenamed Windermere, a flagship BlackBerry 10 phone the flailing Canadian manufacturer is said to be working on, alongside the BlackBerry Z50.

BlackBerry had earlier confirmed that it would be launching a BlackBerry 10 smartphone with a 4.5-inch display of 1440?1440 resolution, and the leak suggests the Q30 will be that phone. The Q30 is said to feature the same stainless steel bezel found on the Q10 and sport styling similar to that of BlackBerry?s Bold series from yesteryear. The Q30 will be special in that its physical keyboard will also have a capacitive layer on top ? this will reportedly allow users to delete words by swiping over the keys, or scroll a page in the browser when the phone is in landscape mode.

Apart from the unusual keyboard, the Q30 could also be the most high-end BlackBerry 10 handset yet. Its specs are expected to include a quad-core Snapdragon MSM8974 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, and a 3,450 mAh battery ? BlackBerry 10 is already one of the smoothest and optimized mobile operating systems around, and the bump in specs could finally allow BlackBerry to go up against the Android competition when it comes to featuring top-of-the-line hardware.

However, an interesting keyboard and modern specs might not be enough to suddenly make consumers flock over to the BlackBerry camp. The BlackBerry Q30 will surely be attractive to a niche segment of users who want the convenience of physical keys, but it?s the BlackBerry Z50 and other full-touch handsets that will (hopefully) give BlackBerry a chance to make a dent in the smartphone market.
