This is the one but advice needed

    So getting a Vu+ Duo

I am reading though about setting up, images, software, Bouquets etc
no where is clear about these, ie everyone seems to talk like everyone else knows what they are talking about

firmware.. people seem split between vix and blackhole and a majority of the people who are recommending are sponsors or whatever for what they are recommending, which to me seems tobe biased ... any independent recommendations

also hard drives.. ?80 for a 1TB is a bit steep, when you can buy a 3TB drive for?85 .. wiring up seems easy as I was an OEM builder back in the day, but to they auto discover and initialise etc ... plus how much recording time is 1TB or 3TB

    What are bouquets and images?

I would use vix nicer to set up and loads of addons.

I use a 300gb drive plenty room, and the vix image comes with an auto bouquet generator then you can arrange them as you like.

easy to flash just dump the image folder to a mem stich, plug in and boot boot

As for recording, as a rough guide 1 hour recording in High Definition is approx 4Gb. So a 3 hour movie approx 12Gb.
So 1TB HDD approx 250 hours recording in High Def. 3TB 750 hours in High Def ............i.e...loads.

    Hope this helps

Soz I wouldn't know if it's compatible as I don't have a vu duo but at a guess I would think it would be, give world of satellite a run for their money and ask them if they can compete or match ebuyer and if they can't ask if the one your looking at is compatible.

fact is theres only about ?10 difference between 1TB and 2TB which is worth paying in case of future updates... plus then the kids can save their favourite movies, and believe me there'll be a lot of them

anyway they won't price match but have no problems me installing my own

Installing a hard drive to a vu+ Duo is only a 2 min job and its plug & play

I have a 1TB in mine and its 90% full so 2TB would be better if you have kids Hidden Content
